MALDI imaging is well established for animal tissue, but plant tissue presents very different challenges. The Metabolomics Australia facility at the University of Melbourne has applied Bruker MALDI imaging technology to map metabolite distributions in plant tissues, opening new ground for plant biology, agriculture and natural-product research.
